The Hitachi ZX200 has earned a reputation across Indian infrastructure projects that rivals the Komatsu PC200 and CAT 320 in its class. Where Komatsu dominates rental fleets and CAT serves large contractor accounts, Hitachi has a loyal following among quarry operators and road contractors who value the machine's digging feel and hydraulic response. In Africa and the Middle East, the ZX200 is equally prominent — it is one of the most exported 20-tonne excavators out of India-based trading networks.
Parts Trading Company stocks Hitachi ZX200 parts across all three generations still active in Indian and export fleets: the ZX200-3 (2006–2012), ZX200-5 (2012–2019), and the current ZX200-5A / ZX200-5G generation. This guide covers which parts differ between generations, filter intervals, common failure modes, and how to identify your machine from the serial number.
The ZX200-3 uses the Isuzu 6BG1TRP engine — a 6.5-litre six-cylinder turbocharged unit producing 110 kW (148 hp). This is a mechanically injected engine (distributor pump) without common-rail, making it highly serviceable in remote locations. The hydraulic pump is the Hitachi HPV116 — a twin variable-displacement axial-piston pump derived from the Kawasaki K3V112 architecture. The HIOS III (Hitachi Intelligent Operating System) in the -3 generation provides three working modes: Power, Standard, and Economy.
ZX200-3 machines are approaching 10,000–15,000 hours on many Indian and African fleets and are the generation requiring the most intensive parts support today. Engine parts, hydraulic pump kits, and undercarriage components have excellent aftermarket availability globally.
The ZX200-5 introduced the Isuzu Tier 4 Interim / Bharat Stage III equivalent engine — the AH-6BG1TRP producing 114 kW (153 hp). This engine retained mechanical injection on models sold into India and most export markets, while European and North American specifications used a more complex common-rail system. The hydraulic pump was updated to an improved HPV118 with better pump-to-engine matching through the HIOS V control system.
The ZX200-5 added a larger colour monitor and ZAXIS Link telematics. The hydraulic system introduced the TRIAS III (Triple pressure circuit) architecture which improves multi-function efficiency. The cab was redesigned with improved noise reduction — a significant comfort improvement over the -3 generation.
The current generation ZX200-5A (Asia/Africa specification) and ZX200-5G (Global) use the Isuzu AH-6BG1TRP engine in updated tune, meeting BS IV / Stage V emissions where required. The ZX200-5G adds Hitachi's ICT (Information and Communication Technology) guidance system option. Key differences from the -5: redesigned hydraulic control valve assembly, updated pump regulators, and revised cab ergonomics. Many engine and hydraulic parts are shared with the -5 generation, but cab components and electronic modules are unique.
| Filter | Hitachi Part Number | Interval | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine oil filter | 4607257 | 500 hrs | 6BG1 engine; spin-on type |
| Fuel filter (primary) | 4616462 | 500 hrs | Change with engine oil service |
| Fuel filter (secondary) | 4616463 | 500 hrs | ZX200-3 with mechanical injection |
| Air filter outer | 4606217 | 1,000 hrs or on condition | Check restriction indicator at 250 hrs in dust |
| Air filter inner | 4606218 | 3,000 hrs or if outer damaged | Never clean inner element |
| Hydraulic return filter | 4440076 | 1,000 hrs | Replace element only |
| Hydraulic pilot filter | 4448305 | 1,000 hrs | Critical — blocked pilot filter causes slow controls |
Indian dust conditions: In quarry or demolition work, inspect the air filter outer element every 250 hours and the pre-cleaner every shift. The 6BG1 engine is sensitive to dust ingestion — premature liner wear from dust bypass is the leading cause of early engine overhaul on Indian ZX200-3 fleets.
The Hitachi HPV116 is a tandem variable-displacement axial-piston pump producing up to 2 × 116 cc/rev. It is architecturally identical to the Kawasaki K3V112 and many rebuild kits for the K3V112 are compatible. Key wear components in the HPV116 are the cylinder block assembly, piston shoes (9 pistons per section), valve plate, and shaft seal. Pump case drain flow above 8–10 L/min at rated speed indicates significant internal wear requiring rebuild or replacement.
Before condemning the main pump, always verify pilot filter condition and pilot relief valve setting (3.9 MPa for ZX200-3). A blocked pilot filter reduces pilot pressure, causing symptoms identical to pump failure — slow response, low digging force, high hydraulic temperature.
The ZX200 swing motor is a fixed-displacement piston motor with integral swing parking brake. Common failure mode is oil leakage from the motor shaft seal — typically caused by over-pressuring the case drain line. A full swing motor seal kit restores sealing without requiring full motor disassembly. If the motor's internal components have suffered abrasive wear from contaminated oil, a complete exchange motor is required. Swing reduction gear oil change interval is 2,000 hours; level check every 500 hours.
| Cylinder | Bore × Rod | Seal Kit Type | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boom cylinder | 125 mm × 90 mm | Full kit: piston, rod, wiper, backup rings | Quality aftermarket acceptable |
| Arm cylinder | 115 mm × 80 mm | Full kit | Quality aftermarket acceptable |
| Bucket cylinder | 100 mm × 70 mm | Full kit | Quality aftermarket acceptable |
The ZX200 uses a long undercarriage for stability — the ZX200LC (Long Crawler) is the standard configuration in India. The undercarriage consists of 2 × 49-link track chains, 14 bottom rollers (7 per side), 4 carrier rollers, 2 front idlers, and 2 drive sprockets.
| Component | New Dimension | Replace At | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Track pitch (10-link) | 1905 mm | >1945 mm (2% elongation) | Measure under tension |
| Bottom roller flange OD | ~172 mm | <162 mm | Measure at wear face |
| Idler tread width | ~130 mm | <115 mm | Measure contact face |
| Sprocket tooth thickness | ~22 mm | <12 mm | Replace at hook profile |
| Track shoe grouser height | 30 mm | <15 mm | Triple grouser shoes standard |
SALT chain recommendation: In Indian quarry and laterite conditions, specify Sealed-and-Lubricated Track (SALT) chain for new undercarriage fits. SALT chain gives 30–50% longer life than standard in abrasive conditions and eliminates the bushing-turn service interval.
| Serial Format | Generation | Engine | Period |

The serial number plate is located on the right side of the upper frame near the engine compartment, and also on the cab door frame. If you have a partial serial or a machine that has been re-painted without serial preservation, send us a photo of the engine serial plate — we cross-reference from there.
