The PC200 — India's Benchmark Mid-Size Excavator

In the hierarchy of Indian excavator ownership, the Komatsu PC200 holds a position earned over more than three decades of reliable service. Where the CAT 320 is the machine of choice for large contractors with dealer relationships and OEM service agreements, the PC200 is the machine that mid-size contractors, rental fleets, and independent owner-operators trust most. It is dependable, has excellent parts availability through both Komatsu dealers and the aftermarket, and its operating costs are well understood across the industry.

India's installed base of PC200 series excavators spans all four major generations — the PC200-6, -7, -8, and -10 — and includes thousands of machines that have crossed 10,000 and even 15,000 hours of operation. Many of these machines are on their second or third engine rebuild and their third or fourth undercarriage replacement. The PC200 is, in short, a machine that rewards good maintenance and parts quality over a working life that can stretch to 20 years in the right hands.

At Parts Trading Company, Komatsu PC200 parts are among our highest-volume stock items. We have been supplying filters, seal kits, undercarriage components, and engine parts for the PC200 series since the machine first became prevalent in Indian construction in the late 1990s. This guide covers everything you need to source the right part for the right generation.

PC200 Generation Guide — What Changed Between -6, -7, -8, and -10

This is the most critical section of this guide for anyone ordering parts. The Komatsu PC200 model number does not refer to one machine — it refers to four distinct engineering generations, with different engines, different hydraulic pumps, and different electronic systems. Parts ordered for the wrong generation frequently do not fit, and in the case of engine or fuel system parts, may damage the machine if installed incorrectly.

Komatsu PC200-6 (1993–2001) — Serial Range: A83001~

The PC200-6 was the machine that established Komatsu's dominance in the Indian market. It uses the SAA6D95L-1 engine — a 5.5-litre six-cylinder naturally aspirated or turbocharged unit producing approximately 99 kW (133 hp). The -6 generation uses a fully mechanical injection system (no common rail), making it highly serviceable in remote locations without specialist diagnostic equipment.

The hydraulic pump on the PC200-6 is the Kawasaki K3V112DT — the same platform pump that appears across much of the industry in this era. The -6 generation has no electronic control for the hydraulic system beyond the basic pump regulator. The monitor panel is simple: water temperature, fuel level, and charge indicator. No fault codes, no integrated telematics.

PC200-6 machines are still operating in India in significant numbers, particularly in quarrying and smaller construction operations. Parts availability from the aftermarket is excellent — the 6D95 engine and K3V112 pump are among the most widely supported platforms in the world's aftermarket.

Komatsu PC200-7 (2001–2008) — Serial Range: B85001~

The PC200-7 introduced the SAA6D102E-2 engine — a 5.9-litre six-cylinder turbocharged unit producing 103 kW (138 hp). This engine moved to a more sophisticated fuel injection system, and the -7 generation introduced Komatsu's CLSS (Closed-centre Load Sensing System) hydraulic architecture — a significant efficiency improvement over the -6 generation.

The PC200-7 also introduced the Komatsu KOMTRAX telematics system on later serial numbers, allowing remote monitoring of machine location and hours. The monitor panel became significantly more capable, with a wider range of fault code displays. Engine parts for the SAA6D102E-2 are well-supported in the aftermarket — this engine platform was used across many Komatsu excavator and truck models, creating deep parts availability.

Komatsu PC200-8 (2008–2016) — Serial Range: C45001~

The PC200-8 is the most common generation in active Indian fleets today. It uses the SAA6D107E-1 engine — a 6.7-litre six-cylinder turbocharged common-rail unit producing 110 kW (148 hp). The move to common-rail injection brought improved fuel economy and lower emissions (Tier 3 / Stage IIIA equivalent), but it also introduced a more complex fuel system requiring higher-quality fuel filtration.

The PC200-8 hydraulic pump is the Kawasaki K3V112DTP — an updated version of the -6 and -7 generation pump with improved port plate and pressure cut-off control. The CLSS hydraulic system was refined further. The -8 generation also introduced the Komatsu ECO guidance system, which provides fuel consumption feedback through the monitor panel.

Our Komatsu PC200-8 parts page covers our full stock for this generation, which is currently our highest-volume Komatsu line.

Komatsu PC200-10 (2016–Present) — Serial Range: K50001~ onwards

The current generation PC200-10 uses the SAA6D107E-3 engine — an updated version of the -8's 6.7-litre engine with improved turbocharger and fuel system calibration, producing 122 kW (164 hp). The -10 generation meets BS IV (Bharat Stage IV) emissions requirements and features a diesel particulate filter (DPF) system — a significant maintenance consideration in the Indian context.

The PC200-10 introduces a redesigned cab with a 7-inch colour monitor, integrated rear-view camera, and KOMTRAX Plus telematics. The hydraulic system uses a new-generation pump — the K5V200, not backward-compatible with earlier generations. Many cab components, electronic modules, and hydraulic control valve parts are unique to this generation.

Filter Kit — The Most Important Maintenance Investment

A complete PC200 filter change is the highest-return maintenance activity available to any fleet operator. At 500-hour intervals, a properly executed filter service protects the engine, hydraulic system, and fuel system simultaneously. Skipping or deferring filter changes on the PC200-8 and -10 with their common-rail engines is particularly costly — contaminated fuel destroys injectors and high-pressure fuel pumps that cost ₹30,000–80,000 to replace.

Indian condition recommendation: In dusty quarry and road-cutting environments, reduce air filter inspection to every 250 hours and check the restriction indicator after every shift during peak dust seasons. We see more PC200-8 engine failures from restricted air filter than from any other single cause.

Hydraulic System — Main Pump, Swing Motor, Cylinder Seals, Travel Motor

The PC200's CLSS hydraulic system is one of its defining features — and one of the reasons experienced operators prefer Komatsu to some competitors in the same class. The load-sensing system ensures that flow is delivered proportionally to demand, reducing heat generation and improving efficiency. But it also means that hydraulic system faults present differently than on simpler systems, and diagnosis requires understanding the CLSS architecture.

Main Hydraulic Pump — K3V112DT / K3V112DTP

The Kawasaki K3V112DT (used on PC200-6 and -7) and K3V112DTP (used on PC200-8) are tandem variable-displacement axial-piston pumps. Each section displaces 112 cc/rev. The front section feeds the left travel and boom circuits; the rear section feeds the right travel, arm, and swing circuits. A charge pump (gear type, mounted behind the main sections) provides pilot circuit pressure.

The PC200-10 uses the K5V200 — a larger displacement pump not compatible with earlier generation installations. Always confirm the generation before ordering a pump or pump rebuild kit.

Pump failure presents as: slow machine response, weak digging force, high hydraulic oil temperature, or complete loss of function on one or more circuits. Before condemning the pump, check:

Swing Motor and Swing Reduction

The PC200 swing motor is a fixed-displacement axial-piston motor driving the swing reduction gearbox. Swing motor seal failure (presenting as slow swing, swing drift, or oil leakage from the motor case) is best addressed with a full motor seal kit. Complete swing motor replacement is required when the motor's slipper pads or cylinder block show abrasive wear — a condition that results from running the machine with contaminated hydraulic oil.

The swing reduction gearbox uses a dedicated oil charge — separate from the main hydraulic circuit. Change interval is 2,000 hours; never allow this oil to fall below the minimum level, as the swing reduction is expensive to replace (₹80,000–1,50,000 depending on generation).

Cylinder Seal Kits for PC200

Arm (stick) cylinder115 mm bore / 80 mm rodFull seal kitQuality aftermarket acceptable
Bucket cylinder105 mm bore / 70 mm rodFull seal kitQuality aftermarket acceptable

Travel Motor Seals

The PC200 uses two hydraulic travel motors — one per track — each combined with a two-speed planetary final drive. Travel motor seal failure presents as oil leaking from the motor case or from the final drive. A full travel motor seal kit (shaft seal, O-rings, and piston seals) can restore a leaking motor to service. If the motor has suffered internal scoring from running with contaminated oil, a complete exchange motor is required.

Undercarriage — Track Chain, Rollers, Idler, Sprocket

Undercarriage costs typically represent 30–40% of a PC200's total lifetime operating cost. Managing undercarriage wear correctly — through appropriate machine operation, regular inspection, and timely component replacement — is the single highest-impact action a PC200 owner can take to reduce operating costs.

PC200 Undercarriage Configuration

The standard PC200 undercarriage consists of:

Standard vs Sealed and Lubricated (SALT) Chain

Komatsu offers two track chain specifications for the PC200:

Inspection Guide — Measurements and Wear Limits

Use the following measurements for PC200-8 undercarriage inspection. Take all measurements when the machine is clean and at normal operating temperature:

ComponentNew DimensionReplace atHow to Measure
Track chain pitch (10-link measurement)1905 mm (190.5 mm per link)When 10-link length exceeds 1945 mm (2% elongation)Measure between pin centres across 10 links under tension
Link height (shoe side)87 mmBelow 77 mm (about 10 mm wear)Measure from shoe contact face to link rail top surface
Bushing outer diameter60 mm (approx.)Below 55 mmCaliper measurement at bushing mid-point
Bottom roller flange width108 mm (approx.)Below 98 mmCaliper across both flanges at widest point
Idler tread width140 mm (approx.)Below 120 mmMeasure across contact face with chain
Sprocket tooth thickness25 mm (approx.)Below 15 mm or hook-shaped profileMeasure mid-tooth thickness
Track shoe grouser height28 mm (triple grouser)Below 14 mm (50% wear)Measure from shoe base to grouser tip

Bushing turn service: On standard (non-SALT) chain, Komatsu recommends "turning" the bushings at approximately 50% of chain life — rotating them 180 degrees to present the unworn side to the sprocket. This service doubles chain life and costs a fraction of full chain replacement. If you are running standard chain, ask your workshop about bushing turn service at around 1,500–2,000 hours.

Engine — SAA6D102E and SAA6D107E — Common Issues and Key Parts

Komatsu's PC200 engine history is one of steady, conservative improvement. Neither the SAA6D102E (PC200-7) nor the SAA6D107E (PC200-8/10) is a troublesome engine — but both have specific failure patterns that Indian conditions exacerbate.
