Ground engaging tools (GET) — high-consumption wear parts: Bucket teeth, tooth adapters, cutting edges, corner protectors, wear plates, and ripper tips are designed as sacrificial wear components that protect expensive structural bucket steel. GET represents a significant ongoing operating cost — a fully equipped 30-tonne excavator bucket carries 5–7 teeth and adapters totalling ₹80,000–1,50,000 in replacement cost per set.

Rock vs soil application matching: Selecting the wrong tooth profile dramatically shortens service life. Standard "general purpose" teeth are optimised for mixed conditions. Rock chisel teeth penetrate hard formations more effectively. Heavy-duty quad-point teeth handle abrasive rock. Using standard teeth in quarry blasting rubble wears them 3–4× faster than matched rock teeth.

Wear monitoring: Inspect teeth every 250–500 hours. Replace when nose wear reaches 50% — worn-through teeth damage adapters (₹8,000–20,000 each) requiring more expensive repair. Check adapter retention pins — a loose pin allows tooth rotation, rapidly wearing the adapter socket. Inspect cutting edges for curl or cracking.

Adapter and base edge system: The three-layer system (base edge → adapter → tooth) means individual components can be replaced as they wear without replacing the entire assembly. Keep a stock of tooth pins and retainers on-site — losing a tooth during operation can damage bucket and stick components if not caught immediately.
