Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

Initial signs of a failing oil filter include a slight increase in engine noise or a dimming oil pressure warning light. If ignored, the filter will become completely clogged, severely restricting oil flow and leading to accelerated internal engine wear. Eventually, this can result in significant engine damage due to lack of lubrication.

Installation Tip

Ensure the engine oil is warm before draining to facilitate complete removal of old oil and contaminants. Do not overtighten the new filter, as this can damage the gasket or the filter housing.
