The Volvo L90 is the mid-size wheel loader in Volvo CE's L-series range — larger than the L70 used in municipal and small aggregate work, and smaller than the L110/L120 used in large quarry and port operations. In India, the L90 finds its market in medium-sized quarry stockyards, cement distribution terminals, and steel plant raw material handling.

The L90 generations most active in India are L90F (2007–2014), L90G (2014–2018), and L90H (2018–present). The engine transitions from D6E (L90F) to D8K (L90G/H) represent meaningful service changes.

Volvo L90F (2007–2014) — Volvo D6E Engine

The L90F uses the Volvo D6E — the same 6.7-litre engine used in the EC210B excavator. This cross-application advantage simplifies parts management for fleet operators running both Volvo excavators and wheel loaders. Engine filter part numbers are identical across EC210B and L90F applications.

Volvo L90G/H (2014–Present) — Volvo D8K Engine

The L90G introduced the Volvo D8K engine — a 7.7-litre inline-six meeting Tier 4 Final / Stage V requirements. The D8K is significantly different from the D6E in displacement, fuel system, and aftertreatment configuration. Confirm the generation before ordering any engine components.

L90 Drivetrain — Volvo PowerShift Transmission and Axles

The L90 uses Volvo's Powershift transmission with torque converter lock-up and automatic gear shifting. The transmission oil must be Volvo ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) specification — using non-specified fluid degrades clutch pack performance and accelerates wear. Service the transmission at 1,000-hour intervals; check oil level every 250 hours in high-cycle operations.

Axle differential and wet brake service is critical on the L90: the axle-integrated wet disc brakes share oil with the differential. Contaminated or degraded brake oil causes brake fade and hot brakes under heavy cycle loading. Check axle oil at every 500-hour service; change at 2,000 hours.
