Failure Symptoms

The initial symptom of a failing oil filter may be an illuminated oil pressure warning light or a slight increase in engine noise. If ignored, the filter will continue to clog, potentially leading to the bypass valve opening and unfiltered oil circulating, causing accelerated internal engine wear. Prolonged use with a blocked filter can result in severe engine damage due to inadequate lubrication.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal. Do not overtighten the filter; hand-tighten plus a quarter to half turn is typically sufficient.

Service Note

When replacing the oil filter, it is crucial to also change the engine oil and inspect the oil drain plug and gasket for wear.
