Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

Initial symptoms of a clogged fuel filter include a slight loss of engine power or hesitation during acceleration. If ignored, the engine may begin to run rough, misfire, or stall unexpectedly. Continued operation with a severely restricted filter can lead to fuel starvation and potential damage to the injection pump.

Installation Tip

Ensure the fuel tank is not completely empty before starting to minimize air entering the system. Do not overtighten the filter housing, as this can damage the seal and cause leaks.

Service Note

Inspect the fuel lines for any signs of cracking or leakage and check the fuel water separator if equipped.
