Failure Symptoms

An early indicator of an oil filter issue might be slightly darker engine oil than usual, or a faint ticking noise from the engine. If the filter becomes severely clogged, oil flow can be restricted, leading to increased engine wear and potential overheating, and the oil pressure warning light may illuminate. The worst outcome is accelerated internal engine component damage due to inadequate lubrication.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new oil filter with a thin film of clean engine oil before installation. Do not overtighten the filter; hand-tight plus a quarter turn is usually sufficient.

Service Note

When replacing the oil filter, it is essential to also change the engine oil and inspect the oil drain plug and gasket for wear.
