Failure Symptoms

The first sign of a failing water pump is often a small coolant leak from the weep hole, or a noticeable whining or grinding noise from the pump bearing. If ignored, the leaks can worsen, or the bearing can fail, leading to a loss of coolant circulation and rapid engine overheating. Continued operation with a compromised cooling system can cause severe engine damage, including warped cylinder heads and damaged pistons.

Installation Tip

Ensure the engine block's water passages are thoroughly flushed to remove any debris or old coolant residue before installing the new pump. Do not overtighten the mounting bolts, as this can distort the pump housing and cause leaks.

Service Note

Always replace the thermostat and flush the cooling system when replacing the water pump.
