Failure Symptoms

The initial symptom of a clogged fuel filter is a gradual decrease in engine power, particularly when operating under heavy load. If left unaddressed, the engine may begin to sputter, hesitate, or stall completely due to insufficient fuel delivery. Continued operation with a severely restricted filter can lead to premature wear on the fuel injection pump.

Installation Tip

Ensure the area around the fuel filter housing is clean before removal to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system. Prime the new filter with clean fuel if possible before installation to reduce the amount of air in the system.

Service Note

Always replace the primary fuel filter (if equipped) and inspect the fuel tank for water and sediment when changing the secondary fuel filter.
