Failure Symptoms

A clogged oil filter may initially cause a slight increase in oil pressure readings or a faint engine noise due to restricted oil flow. If ignored, the filter's bypass valve may open, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate, leading to accelerated internal engine wear. Eventually, this can result in low oil pressure warnings and severe damage to bearings and other critical components.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil before installation. Hand-tighten the filter until the gasket makes contact, then tighten an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn, or as specified by the manufacturer.

Service Note

It is recommended to change the engine oil at the same time the oil filter is replaced.
