113-1150 Drive Shaft — Cat 416C 416D

This drive shaft is a critical component that transmits rotational power from the transmission or transfer case to the differential or final drive. It is manufactured to meet rigorous OEM quality standards, ensuring precise alignment and efficient power transfer, unlike a worn or damaged shaft. Operators may notice vibrations during acceleration, clunking noises, or a loss of power to the wheels when this component begins to fail.

Failure Symptoms

A failing drive shaft often begins with noticeable vibrations, particularly when accelerating or at higher speeds. This can progress to clunking noises when shifting gears or engaging the drivetrain, and eventually, a complete loss of power to the wheels if the shaft or its joints fail. Continued operation risks damage to the transmission, differential, and mounting points.

Installation Tip

Ensure the universal joint angles are correctly set and that the shaft is properly phased before tightening all fasteners. Improper phasing can lead to premature wear and vibration.

Service Note

Inspect the universal joints, center support bearings (if applicable), and transmission/differential seals for wear or leaks when replacing the drive shaft.
