Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

An immediate sign of a clogged oil filter is the engine oil pressure warning light illuminating on the dashboard. If ignored, the engine may begin to produce ticking or knocking sounds due to inadequate lubrication. Continued operation without proper oil filtration can lead to severe internal engine damage and premature component failure.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal. Do not overtighten the filter; hand-tight plus a quarter turn is usually sufficient.

Service Note

Check the engine oil level and condition, and consider replacing the engine oil at the same time as the oil filter.
