Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

An early sign of a failing oil filter element is a gradual increase in oil pressure or the illumination of the oil pressure warning light. If ignored, the element can become completely clogged, leading to oil bypassing the filter and circulating unfiltered, causing accelerated engine wear. The ultimate consequence is severe internal engine damage due to abrasive contaminants.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter element with clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal. Avoid overtightening the element, as this can damage the gasket or the filter housing threads.

Service Note

When replacing the oil filter element, it is advisable to also inspect the engine oil for signs of coolant or fuel contamination and check the oil drain plug gasket.
