Installation & Application Notes

Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

The first indication of a failing water separator may be a persistent fuel filter restriction warning light or a noticeable loss of engine power. If the element fails to capture water, it can lead to engine sputtering, rough idling, and eventual damage to fuel injectors and the high-pressure fuel pump. Continued operation with water in the fuel system poses a significant risk of severe damage to the engine's core fuel delivery components.

Installation Tip

Before removing the old element, ensure the drain plug on the separator bowl is closed and that any collected water is properly disposed of. Lightly coat the O-ring on the new element with clean diesel fuel to ensure a good seal and prevent tearing during installation.

Check the fuel lines connected to the separator for any signs of leaks or damage, and inspect the integrity of the separator bowl.
