This is a water separator element designed to remove water and suspended solids from the fuel system. It protects sensitive fuel injection components from corrosion and damage caused by water contamination. A failed element will allow water to reach the injectors, leading to poor engine performance and potential component failure.

Installation & Application Notes

Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

Initial signs of a failing water separator element include intermittent engine sputtering or a slight loss of power. If left unaddressed, water can enter the fuel injectors, causing rough idling and increased exhaust smoke. The ultimate consequence is severe damage to the fuel injection pump and injectors.

Installation Tip

Always drain any accumulated water from the separator bowl before attempting to remove the old element. Ensure the new element's O-ring seal is properly lubricated before installation to prevent damage.
