Failure Symptoms

A clogged fuel filter may initially present as a slight hesitation or reduction in engine power under load. As the restriction worsens, the engine may begin to idle roughly, struggle to start, or even stall unexpectedly. Prolonged operation with a severely restricted filter can lead to fuel starvation and damage to the fuel injection pump.

Installation Tip

Ensure the replacement area is clean to prevent dirt from entering the fuel system during the filter change. Prime the new filter with clean fuel before installation if possible, and do not overtighten the filter housing.

Inspect the fuel lines and water separator (if equipped) for leaks or sediment when replacing the fuel filter.
