Failure Symptoms

The most common initial symptom of a failing V-belt is a loud squealing noise, especially on startup or under load. If ignored, the belt can slip, leading to overheating due to a non-functioning water pump or loss of battery charge from a disabled alternator. A completely broken belt will cause immediate shutdown of all driven accessories.
