Failure Symptoms

The initial symptom of a failing fuel water separator is often a slight hesitation or sputtering during acceleration. If left unserviced, the engine may experience a significant loss of power, rough idling, or fail to start altogether due to fuel starvation. Continued operation with a contaminated fuel system can lead to costly damage to fuel injectors and the injection pump.

Installation Tip

Before installing, ensure the sealing surfaces on both the separator and the engine are clean and free of old gasket material. Hand-tighten the new separator until the gasket contacts the mounting surface, then tighten an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn as per instructions.

Service Note

When replacing the fuel water separator, it is recommended to inspect and potentially replace the primary fuel filter as well.
