Failure Symptoms

The primary symptom of a failing A/C compressor is a noticeable reduction or complete loss of cooling performance from the vehicle's climate control system. If ignored, the compressor may begin to make loud grinding or squealing noises, indicating internal damage. The worst-case scenario involves compressor seizure, which can damage the serpentine belt and other accessory drive components.

Installation Tip

Ensure the A/C system is properly evacuated and flushed before installing the new compressor to remove any contaminants. Do not overtighten the compressor mounting bolts, as this can damage the compressor housing.

Service Note

When replacing the A/C compressor, it is highly recommended to also replace the receiver-drier and flush the entire A/C system to remove any debris or moisture.
