Failure Symptoms

The first indication of a failing oil pan gasket is usually visible oil seepage or drips from the bottom of the engine. If left unaddressed, the leak can worsen, leading to a significant loss of engine oil and potential oil pressure warnings. Prolonged operation with insufficient oil can cause severe internal engine damage.

Installation Tip

Thoroughly clean both the engine block and oil pan sealing surfaces to remove all traces of old gasket material and oil. Overtightening the oil pan bolts can distort the pan and cause the new gasket to leak.

Service Note

Inspect the oil pickup tube and screen for debris, and check the condition of the oil drain plug and washer when replacing the oil pan gasket.
