1894478 Coolant Tank — Volvo FH12 FH16

This is an engine coolant expansion tank designed to hold excess coolant and maintain system pressure in Volvo trucks. It is made from robust plastic to resist cracking from heat and vibration, unlike a brittle or leaking old tank. Observable signs of a failing coolant tank include visible cracks, coolant level dropping without apparent leaks elsewhere, and white residue around the cap.

Failure Symptoms

A common initial symptom is a persistent low coolant warning light or a visible drop in the coolant reservoir level. Over time, this can lead to engine overheating due to insufficient coolant. If left unaddressed, a compromised cooling system can cause severe engine damage.

Installation Tip

Ensure the cooling system is completely cool before removing the old tank to avoid burns. When installing, do not overtighten the cap, as this can damage the seal or the tank threads.

Service Note

It is advisable to inspect the radiator cap and all coolant hoses for signs of wear or leaks when replacing the expansion tank.
