Failure Symptoms

Initial signs of a failing power steering pump include a whining noise that changes with steering wheel position and a slight increase in steering effort. If ignored, the steering will become progressively harder to turn, especially at low speeds. Eventually, the power assist can be lost entirely, making the vehicle extremely difficult to control.

Installation Tip

Ensure the hydraulic fluid reservoir is completely drained and flushed before installing the new pump to prevent contamination. Do not overtighten the mounting bolts, as this can distort the pump housing.
