Failure Symptoms

Early indicators of a failing steering pump include increased effort required to turn the steering wheel, especially at low speeds, and a noticeable whining or groaning sound that changes with steering input. If ignored, the power assist will progressively weaken, making steering difficult and potentially unsafe. Continued operation with a faulty pump can lead to overheating of the steering fluid and damage to the steering rack.

Installation Tip

Ensure the steering fluid reservoir is filled to the correct level with the specified fluid type before starting the engine. Bleed the air from the system thoroughly by turning the steering wheel lock-to-lock several times after installation.
