This expansion valve, also known as an expansion control valve or TX valve, is a key component in the air conditioning system of Volvo trucks, regulating the flow of refrigerant into the evaporator. It is designed to maintain optimal cabin temperature by controlling refrigerant expansion, performing reliably where a worn valve might allow incorrect refrigerant flow. Drivers may notice inadequate cooling or inconsistent cabin temperatures if this valve fails.

Flush hydraulic lines before fitting new components. Use only manufacturer-specified hydraulic fluid. Check O-rings and backup rings for correct orientation. Bleed air from system after installation.
Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.
The primary symptom of a failing expansion valve is a noticeable decrease in air conditioning cooling performance, often characterized by inconsistent temperatures. If the valve becomes stuck open, the evaporator may freeze up, reducing airflow. If it sticks closed, the AC system will likely blow warm air, rendering it ineffective.
Ensure the AC system is properly evacuated of refrigerant before removing the old valve to prevent environmental release and personal injury. When installing, ensure the sensing bulb is securely attached to the evaporator outlet pipe in the correct orientation.
Replace the receiver-drier (accumulator) whenever the AC system is opened, and consider flushing the system to remove any debris or contaminants.
