Failure Symptoms

The initial symptom of failing cylinder seals is often a slow drift of the boom when not actively being controlled or visible hydraulic fluid leakage around the cylinder rod. If ignored, the cylinder will lose pressure more rapidly, leading to reduced lifting performance and potentially uncontrolled movement. Continued operation with compromised seals can lead to internal cylinder damage and hydraulic system contamination.

Installation Tip

Carefully inspect the cylinder rod and bore for any nicks or scoring before installing the new seals, as imperfections will damage the new seals immediately. Ensure all old seal material is completely removed from the grooves.

Inspect the hydraulic fluid for contamination and consider flushing the system if significant leakage has occurred.
