Failure Symptoms

The most common symptom is the boom slowly drifting down when holding a load or when the engine is off. You may also notice hydraulic fluid leaks around the cylinder rod or hear unusual noises during boom operation. Continued operation with worn seals can lead to internal cylinder damage and reduced hydraulic system efficiency.

Installation Tip

Carefully inspect the cylinder rod for any scoring or damage before installing new seals; a damaged rod will quickly ruin new seals. Ensure all old seal material is completely removed from the cylinder grooves.

Inspect the hydraulic fluid for signs of contamination and check the condition of the cylinder barrel for scoring when replacing boom cylinder seals.
