Failure Symptoms

A failing fuel filter bowl may initially present as difficulty in draining water or a slight fuel leak around the bowl assembly. If left unaddressed, water can enter the fuel system, causing engine misfires and poor performance. The worst consequence is potential damage to sensitive fuel injection components due to water contamination.

Installation Tip

Ensure the new bowl's O-ring seals are properly lubricated with clean diesel fuel before installation to prevent pinching and ensure a watertight seal. Do not overtighten the bowl, as this can crack the plastic or damage the threads.

Service Note

When replacing the fuel filter bowl, inspect the fuel lines connected to it for any signs of cracking or wear, and check the main fuel filter for excessive sediment.
