Failure Symptoms

The initial symptom of a failing separator filter bowl may be the illumination of a water-in-fuel warning light or visible water in the transparent bowl if equipped. If the seal fails or the bowl cracks, water can enter the fuel system, leading to engine sputtering, reduced power, and potential damage to fuel injectors. Continued operation with contaminated fuel can cause severe damage to the entire fuel injection system.

Installation Tip

Ensure the sealing surfaces on both the bowl and the filter head are clean and free from debris before assembly. When tightening the bowl, do not overtighten, as this can crack the plastic or damage the threads.

Service Note

Always drain any accumulated water and sediment from the bowl before reinstalling it, and inspect the fuel filter element it attaches to.
