Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

Initial symptoms of a failing steering filter include a slight increase in steering effort or minor hesitation during turns. If ignored, the power steering pump may begin to whine under load, and the fluid can become visibly dirty or foamy. Continued use with a clogged filter can lead to premature failure of the power steering pump and steering rack.

Installation Tip

Before removing the old filter, clean the area around the filter housing to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system. Ensure the new filter's O-rings are properly seated and lubricated before installation to prevent leaks.
