Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

The first sign of a failing separator filter bowl is the presence of water or significant sediment in the drained fuel, or a warning light indicating fuel system issues. If the separation is ineffective, water can enter the primary fuel filter, leading to engine sputtering and rough running. In severe cases, untreated water can cause corrosion and damage to fuel injectors and the injection pump.

Installation Tip

Ensure the sealing surfaces on both the filter head and the bowl are clean and free of debris before assembly. Do not overtighten the bowl, as this can crack the plastic or damage the O-ring seal.

Service Note

Regularly drain any accumulated water from the separator bowl and inspect the primary fuel filter for signs of premature clogging.
