Failure Symptoms

A severely clogged oil filter may initially trigger an oil pressure warning light on the dashboard or lead to audible engine noises due to inadequate lubrication. If ignored, the filter's bypass valve may open, allowing unfiltered oil to circulate, causing accelerated wear on internal engine components.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new oil filter with clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal. Do not overtighten the filter; hand-tight plus a quarter turn is usually sufficient.

Service Note

When replacing the oil filter, it is also recommended to change the engine oil and inspect the oil pan and drain plug for any signs of damage or leaks.
