Failure Symptoms

The primary symptom of a worn camshaft is a noticeable decrease in engine power and torque, often accompanied by rough idling and uneven engine operation. If the wear is severe, the engine may struggle to start or run at all due to improper valve timing. Continued operation can lead to increased oil consumption and exhaust emissions.

Installation Tip

Ensure the camshaft journals and the engine block's camshaft bores are perfectly clean and lubricated with appropriate assembly oil before installation. Never spin the camshaft with dry lobes, as this will cause immediate damage.

Service Note

When replacing the camshaft, it is critical to inspect and replace the valve lifters (tappets) and camshaft bearings, as well as check the timing gear or chain for wear.
