Failure Symptoms

The most common symptom of a failing starter motor is a single loud click when the ignition is turned, followed by no engine cranking. In some cases, the engine may crank very slowly or intermittently fail to engage the flywheel. If left unaddressed, the starter may completely fail, leaving the vessel unable to start its engine and potentially stranded.

Installation Tip

Ensure the battery terminals are clean and the battery voltage is sufficient before connecting the starter motor. Avoid holding the starter engaged for longer than necessary after the engine has started, as this can overheat the motor.
