Failure Symptoms

The initial symptom of a worn drive belt is often a high-pitched squealing noise, especially upon startup or when accessories are engaged. If the belt breaks, accessories will cease to function, leading to a rapid discharge of the battery, loss of power steering, and potential engine overheating if the water pump is belt-driven. A broken belt will render the vehicle inoperable.

Installation Tip

Always release tension on the old belt using the tensioner pulley before attempting removal, and ensure the new belt is routed correctly around all pulleys before applying tension. Never use tools to pry the belt onto the pulleys, as this can damage the belt or pulleys.
