Failure Symptoms

The first sign of a failing power steering pulley might be an intermittent whining noise from the front of the engine, especially when turning the steering wheel. If the pulley's bearing seizes or the pulley itself becomes significantly damaged, it can cause the drive belt to slip or break, leading to a complete loss of power steering assist. This makes steering extremely difficult, particularly at low speeds or when stationary.

Installation Tip

Ensure the new pulley is installed perfectly square on the pump shaft or crankshaft snout to prevent belt misalignment and premature wear. Do not use excessive force when tightening the pulley retaining bolt, as this can damage the shaft or the pulley.
