Failure Symptoms

The most common symptom of a failing A/C compressor is a noticeable decrease in cooling performance or a complete loss of cold air. Audible grinding or rattling noises from the compressor pulley area may also occur. If ignored, the system may eventually fail to circulate refrigerant, rendering the A/C inoperable.

Installation Tip

Always evacuate the A/C system before removing the old compressor to prevent refrigerant loss and contamination. Ensure the new compressor is pre-lubricated with the correct type and amount of PAG oil before installation.

Service Note

Replace the receiver/drier and expansion valve or orifice tube when replacing the A/C compressor.
