Failure Symptoms

An overloaded fuel water separator will first cause intermittent engine sputtering or a slight loss of power. If ignored, water can bypass the filter, leading to corrosion and damage within the fuel injection system. The ultimate consequence is potential engine stalling and costly repairs to fuel system components.

Installation Tip

Ensure the sealing surfaces on both the separator and the filter head are clean and free of old gasket material before installing the new filter. Hand-tighten the new filter until the gasket contacts the head, then tighten an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn, or as specified.

Inspect the fuel tank for sediment and check the fuel lines for any signs of leaks when replacing the fuel water separator.
