Failure Symptoms

Slow engine cranking or a distinct clicking sound when the ignition is turned are the initial signs of a failing starter motor. If the problem persists, the starter may eventually fail to engage the flywheel altogether, leaving the vehicle unable to start. A failed starter motor will prevent the vehicle from being operated until it is replaced.

Installation Tip

Ensure the engine flywheel teeth are clean and undamaged before mounting the starter. Do not hold the starter engaged for longer than necessary after the engine has started, as this can overheat the starter motor.

Service Note

Inspect the battery terminals and cables for corrosion and ensure the battery is fully charged when replacing the starter motor.
