Failure Symptoms

A failing oil filter may initially present as a slightly darker engine oil color or a faint increase in engine noise. If ignored, the filter will become saturated, leading to bypass valve activation and unfiltered oil circulating through the engine. This can result in accelerated wear on bearings and camshafts.

Installation Tip

Always lubricate the rubber gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil before installation to ensure a proper seal. Do not overtighten the filter; hand-tighten plus a quarter turn is usually sufficient.

Service Note

When replacing the oil filter, it is advisable to also change the engine oil and inspect the oil drain plug and gasket.
