20533497 D-Cap — Volvo

This D-Cap, also known as a radiator cap, is a crucial component of the cooling system, maintaining pressure within the radiator and coolant reservoir. It regulates the boiling point of the coolant, preventing premature evaporation and ensuring efficient heat transfer. A faulty D-Cap may result in coolant loss, engine overheating, or the formation of steam pockets within the cooling system.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

A failing D-Cap may cause the coolant overflow tank to repeatedly fill and empty, or you might notice steam escaping from under the hood. If the cap fails to hold pressure, the coolant can boil at a lower temperature, leading to engine overheating and potential damage to engine components.

Installation Tip

Ensure the sealing surfaces on both the radiator neck and the cap are clean and free of debris before installation. Never attempt to remove a hot radiator cap, as pressurized hot coolant can spray out.

Service Note

Inspect the radiator hoses and the radiator itself for any signs of swelling, cracking, or corrosion when replacing the D-Cap.
