Failure Symptoms

The first sign of a failing pulley is often an audible squealing or grinding noise from the belt system, or visible wobble of the pulley when the engine is running. If left unaddressed, the bearing can seize, leading to belt breakage and loss of function for driven components like the alternator or water pump. This can result in overheating or loss of electrical power, potentially stopping the machine.

Installation Tip

Ensure the mounting bolt is torqued to the manufacturer's specification to prevent the pulley from loosening. Do not use a hammer or pry bar to force the pulley onto the shaft, as this can damage the bearing or shaft.

Service Note

Always inspect the drive belt for cracks, fraying, and proper tension when replacing a pulley.
