Failure Symptoms

The first sign of a worn clutch plate is often a noticeable increase in engine RPM without a corresponding increase in vehicle speed, or a 'slipping' sensation during acceleration. If left unaddressed, the plate can disintegrate, leading to complete loss of drive and potential damage to other transmission components.

Installation Tip

Ensure all friction surfaces are lightly coated with the appropriate transmission fluid before installation to prevent initial dry engagement. Do not mix new plates with old, worn plates within the same clutch pack.

Service Note

Replace all clutch plates and seals in the affected pack, and inspect the transmission clutch drums and torque converter for signs of overheating or wear.
