Failure Symptoms

A clogged hydraulic filter may initially cause a slight increase in hydraulic system temperature or a minor reduction in performance. If the filter bypass valve opens due to excessive restriction, contaminants will circulate freely, leading to accelerated wear on pumps and valves. Ignoring filter replacement risks severe internal damage to the entire hydraulic system.

Installation Tip

Ensure the filter housing is clean and the old gasket material is completely removed from the mounting surface before installing the new filter. Hand-tighten the filter an additional three-quarters of a turn after the gasket makes contact, or follow specific torque instructions if provided.

Inspect the hydraulic fluid for signs of contamination and check the condition of the filter housing O-ring when replacing the hydraulic filter.
