Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

A failing fuel filter will first manifest as a gradual loss of engine power, especially under load, or intermittent sputtering. If the restriction worsens, the engine may become difficult to start or stall unexpectedly. Continued operation with a severely clogged filter can lead to fuel pump failure and internal engine damage due to poor lubrication and combustion.

Installation Tip

Ensure the new filter is properly seated and the gasket is making full contact to prevent fuel leaks. Do not overtighten the filter, as this can damage the threads or the filter housing.
