Installation & Application Notes

Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

An ineffective water separator may initially allow small amounts of water into the fuel system, potentially causing slight engine hesitation or rough idling. If left unaddressed, increased water contamination can lead to corrosion of fuel system components and reduced fuel lubricity. The worst consequence is significant damage to fuel injectors and the fuel pump, leading to costly repairs.

Installation Tip

Ensure the housing is clean and the O-ring seal is properly lubricated before installing the new element. Hand-tighten the element until snug, then follow specific torque instructions if provided, avoiding over-tightening.

Check the fuel tank for water and sediment, and inspect the primary fuel filter for contamination when replacing the water separator element.
