Never run an engine without a filter — even briefly causes abrasive damage. Pre-fill fuel filters with clean fuel before fitting to reduce prime time. Replace O-rings on filter housings every second service. Record change dates on filter housing.

Failure Symptoms

The first indication of a failing water separator might be the illumination of a 'water in fuel' warning light or visible water in the collection bowl. Continued operation with a compromised separator can lead to injector damage and reduced engine efficiency.

Installation Tip

Before removing the old unit, ensure the engine is off and allow it to cool; drain any collected water from the bowl carefully. Apply a thin film of clean diesel fuel to the new O-ring to ensure a proper seal and prevent tearing.
