Failure Symptoms

Early signs of worn piston rings include a slight reduction in engine power and a faint blue tint to the exhaust smoke. If neglected, oil consumption will increase significantly, leading to fouled spark plugs and excessive smoke, and compression will continue to drop. The ultimate consequence is severe engine damage from lack of compression and lubrication failure.

Installation Tip

Carefully inspect the cylinder walls for any scoring or damage before installing the new rings, as imperfections can quickly damage the new rings. Ensure each piston ring is oriented correctly with the gap facing the specified direction to prevent blow-by.
