7c-3385 Aftercooler — Cat 3408

This is an aftercooler, a heat exchanger designed to cool the compressed air leaving the turbocharger before it enters the engine cylinders, thereby increasing air density and improving combustion efficiency. It is built to meet rigorous OEM standards, offering superior thermal performance and longevity over a corroded or leaking aftercooler. Operators might observe a loss of engine power, increased exhaust gas temperature, or visible coolant leaks around the aftercooler unit when it is failing.

Installation & Application Notes

Inspect mating surfaces for wear before fitting. Use torque specs from service manual. Replace gaskets and seals as a set — reusing compressed gaskets causes oil leaks. Clean all oil passages with compressed air.

Always consult the OEM service manual for model-specific torque values and procedures. WhatsApp our technical team if you need fitment guidance.

Failure Symptoms

A failing aftercooler may first present as a gradual loss of engine power and increased fuel consumption due to less efficient combustion. If the internal passages become blocked or the unit develops leaks, exhaust gas temperatures will rise, potentially leading to overheating. Continued operation with a compromised aftercooler can result in severe engine damage from excessive heat and detonation.

Installation Tip

Ensure all mating surfaces are clean and free of debris before installing the new aftercooler to guarantee a proper seal. Avoid overtightening the mounting bolts, which can warp the end tanks and cause leaks.

Service Note

Inspect the turbocharger for oil leaks and check all intake and coolant hoses for cracks or deterioration when replacing the aftercooler.
