Failure Symptoms

The first sign of a clogged or failing fuel water separator is often intermittent engine sputtering or a noticeable loss of engine power, especially under load. If ignored, the engine may stall completely as fuel flow is restricted, or water can enter the injection system, causing severe damage. Continued operation risks significant damage to the fuel injection pump and injectors.

Installation Tip

Ensure the sealing surfaces on both the separator and the mounting bracket are clean and free of debris before installation. Hand-tighten the new separator, then tighten an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn, or as specified by the manufacturer, to ensure a proper seal without overtightening.

Service Note

When replacing the fuel water separator, inspect the fuel lines for cracks or leaks and check the fuel tank for sediment.
